Martin has updated their website and introduced some 2016 models.
The new website is very well done and has much better photos than before.
The big news for them this year is the Dreadnought’s 100th Anniversary. Here are some newly launched guitars to celebrate the occasion.
D-222 100th Anniversary
The D-222 is a 12 fret dread that features a sitka top with genuine mahogany back and sides. The VTS top and slotted headstock will win many fans here.
Guitarbear wonders if genuine mahogany here refers to better wood. The D-18 shares the same wood (genuine mahogany) whereas the 16 series has what’s listed as just mahogany.
D-28 John Lennon 75th Anniversary
So apart from the Dread’s 100th birthday, Martin has found time to also commemorate John Lennon’s 75th birthday.
This is a 14 fret dread with adirondack spruce top and Madagascar rosewood back and sides.
Adorned with extravagant inlays on the rosette and back, this is indeed a show of craftsmanship. The headstock features an inlay of a John Lennon caricature. Pun intended, just imagine how cool if you’re a big fan.
Prospective buyers will have to note its mind-bloggling US$11900 price tag. 🙂
