500 series – re-voiced for 2016
Following the re-vamp and re-voicing of the 900, 800 and 600 series in recent years, the 500 series are the latest guitars to get a makeover from Master Builder Andy Powers.
Features include new bracing patterns, new bindings and the introduction of Lutz Spruce for some guitar tops. Guitarbear has noticed Taylor using wood or darker bindings on new Taylors. They sure look much better than the white plastic binding on the outgoing guitars. The 500s get a tortoise binding for 2016.
Taylor has also introduced a shorter scale dreadnought this time. With a 24 7/8 inch scale and slotted headstock, the Lutz Spruce 510e seems like an interesting addition to any collection.
300 series – blackwood added to the family
At a lower price point, the 300 series has a new tone wood added to the range. The blackwood/mahogany combination has introduced to its spruce/sapele and all mahogany siblings. Even though not as popular as mahogany and rosewood, blackwood makes n interesting tonewood because of its good looking grains.
Expect to see them all soon as Taylor states delivery for the new guitars will be February in stores. 🙂
