Taylor has quietly updated their 100 Series guitars by using layered walnut for the back and sides.
While the front looks the same, the back and sides are now layered walnut instead of layered sapele previously used. Since the core wood is still poplar, this change will most likely improve only the aesthetics.
The new 100 Series are now available at our local AD. While the non-cutaway models 114e and 110e see an increase in price, the cutaway models are still priced the same as before at the time of this blog post.
Many players consider the humble 114e as the best value-for-money Taylor in the entire lineup, and Guitarbear agrees that $895 is quite a good price to gain entry to the world of full-sized Taylor guitars.
