News of Gibson skipping NAMM has been viral on guitar sites and forums. This has led to various rumours and speculations about the company’s direction.
Guitarbear feels that it is probably ideal for Gibson to skip NAMM and go to the CES mainly because of two reasons:
- They have already launched the 2018 product line in last quarter of 2017. There is nothing new to show at NAMM.
- The internet age has reduced the effectiveness of NAMM for established brand names. Dealers know Gibson LPs will sell if the guy wearing a top hat plays one. This is different for smaller or new brand names who are trying to gain recognition.
Looking forward to 2018 models hitting SG.

Was there last Thursday afternoon to check out their new lifestyle store.
What can I say??? It’s a totally awesome storefront that has expanded beyond sale of music instruments.
